We have been writing ALL ABOUT OUR OPINIONS!!! We have been using lots of fun mentors texts to helps us: I Wanna Iguana (talk your parent into a new pet), I Wanna New Room (talk your parent into a new room), An Alphabet Salad (favorite fruit and favorite vegetable), I'm Extremely Absolutely Boiling (favorite popsicle), The Perfect Pet (talk your parent into a new pet), The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog (favorite lunch), Should I Share My Ice Cream (favorite ice cream), The Piegon Wants a Puppy (favorite pet), Pete's A Pizza (favorite kind of Pizza), Spoon (would you rather be a spoon, fork or chopsticks?).
When teaching the kids about opinions I aim for... 1- STATE your opininion: I like..... or I prefer.... or I feel..... 2- Give ONE REASON why (dig deeper than, it is good!) 3- Give ANOTHER REASON why 4- RESTATE your opinion in a differnt way: _______is awesome! ____ is the best ever! I could eat __________ everyday! Soon we will take our writing to the test and the kids will be on their own! This will be assessed and we will look at their writing at conferences. WE LOVE WRITING!!

We celebrated on February 16 wtih RED POP FLOATS and PINK CHERRY 7-UP FLOATS! They had whipped cream and cherries on top! Afterwards we opened our valentines and heard the YELLING of THANK YOU being shouted around the classroom!! Just one of those things that Mrs. Anderson insists on when celebrating Valentine's Day!
What a LOT OF LOVE!!!! We celebrated in style with our capes decorated with 100 items and our crowns also decorated with 100 things drawn on the 10 strips of paper! I just LOVE THESE KIDS!! We had SO much FUN! We read The Wolf's Chicken Stew by Keiko Kasza about a wolf who loved to eat more than anything else in the world. He wanted to fatten up a chicken to make chicken stew so he fed her... 100 pancakes 100 doughnuts a cake weighing 100 pounds As he peeked into the chicken's house he realized he'd been feeding her 100 chicks! After reading the book we did a HUGE MATH PROBLEM and figured about if we could eat 100 pancakes... How many would we all need to eat? What if one person couldn't eat all of their's? Could someone else eat more? Counting our 100 snacks! 10 White cheddar Cheez-Its 10 Cheddar Cheez-Its 10 Raisins 10 M&M's 10 Pretzels 10 Chex Cereal 10 Honey Nut Cheerios Cereal 10 Cheerios Cereal 10 Chocolate Chips 10 Marshmallows Coming tomorrow... Valentine's Day FUN!!!
