This week we started using a program on the computer called HEADSPROUT. We are so blessed to have this program and extra Chromebooks in our classroom due to the WONDERFUL support of our Lowell Education Foundation. Last year I wrote a grant and 2 classrooms received funding to pilot this program. We are in our second year of the pilot - we are hoping to expand this grant as we just resubmitted a new one so we can finish out the year (it runs out in January). I also wrote a grant in a previous year to obtain extra Chromebooks so we are able to pull this off. We also use our Chromebooks for a plethora of other things in the classroom! I can NOT speak HIGHLY enough of our Lowell Education Foundation and would love it if you would go and check out their website. Lowell Education Foundation

This week for math stations we worked on:
WE are just learning about DAILY FIVE...
There are 3 ways we can read a book:
We are working on building our STAMINA (our reading muscles) so we can read for LONGER periods of time. Thank you to Mrs. Goldsmith for coming in and reading TAKING DOWN SYNDROME TO SCHOOL, to us on Monday and for sharing their personal story with us. She helped the students understand more about what Down Syndrome is and how we can help Emery in our classroom. Most of all, she thanked us for accepting him as part of our classroom. Look for a parent letter to come home shortly from the Goldsmith's.
WE had a BUSY morning of fun!! We ran our obstacle course and then had our healthy snack of water and apples. The APPLES were a HUGE HIT! We had some exhausted kiddos as MANY fell asleep at REST this afternoon!
Thank you to EVERYONE that helped and volunteered to make this event happen! It takes a TON OF BEHIND THE SCENE work!! We can't thank our PTO ENOUGH!! There were NUMEROUS people that made this happen! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE who collected donations for our school! We reached our GOAL so Mr. Fowler kissed a SHEEP! Some of our friends earned some great PRIZES also! Thanks again to the PTO for all of their hard work to get all of these INCREDIBLE prizes! The NED show was TERRIFIC ... please see the PINK SHEET sent home if you'd like to buy a yo-yo and "pay it forward" for a NED show taking place at another school. New stations this week included: working with the #5 - using popsicle sticks to form different ways to make 5 and making 5 using apples in different ways, making patterns with pattern blocks, and using our new MAGNATILES to explore with shapes. Sorry I didn't get more pictures.. they finished stations the day I was gone.
