Learning all about HISTORY- How did Grandma's trunk arrive in Lowell and what was needed to start a home in Michigan?
The life of a pioneer is taught through describing different chores which take place on a different day during the week. Sung to the tune of Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush the kids learn... ‘This is the way we wash the clothes, wash the clothes, wash the clothes. This is the way we wash the clothes every Monday morning.’ In addition to washing clothes the kids learn about ironing, mending, churning, cleaning, and baking.

Learning about WATER and all of the AMAZING things it gives us! Water is ESSENTIAL for many reasons and we can't make more!
WHO Polluted the RIVER? There was a demonstration to see what happened A lot of water pollution comes from human activity. Some human causes include sewage, pesticides and fertilizers from farms, waste water and chemicals from factories, silt from construction sites, and trash from people littering. We watched this all happened in a ten gallon fish tank. We said we wouldn't want to drink it, swim in it or even let animals! Time to CELEBRATE...
our WRITING as we learned that we can take anything we know a lot about—soccer, school, cats, dogs—and write in ways that teach our readers about the topic. This unit helped us feel that puffed-up pride of being an expert and tapped into the eagerness to show and tell. |
