Learning all about MATTER with Science Experiments! The three states of matter are SOLID, LIQUID, and GAS! We did several experiments to learn that: MATTER: is all around us... anything with MASS that takes up space MASS: how much matter is in an object VOLUME: the amount of space an object takes up SOLIDS : have a definite shape and size, do not change shape and size LIQUIDS: have a definite volume, but take the shape of their containers GASES: no definite shape or volume. Take on the shape and size of container. Evidence of gas is all around us. BUBBLES and FIZZ are sure signs that a gas is present Our ORANGE FLOATS even taught us about MATTER! In the solid the molecules are close together, in the liquid they are space out more, but in the gas they are really spaced out. When we put ice cream in pop, it melts. When something melts, it changes STATES of MATTER from a SOLID to a LIQUID. If we put leftovers in the freezer, it will freeze. When something freezes it changes STATES of MATTER from a LIQUID to a SOLID!

We completed our first writing unit and we celebrated it by ENJOYING each other's writing! We had a calm atmosphere with a fire crackling in the background, quiet music playing and we each moved throughout the classroom reading our published pieces. Then we wrote a COMPLIMENT for each friend's writing that we read. This is another thing that will come home at the end of the year in MEMORY BOOKS! |
